Quick Iteration

Scoble recently released a ScobleShow episode interviewing Mark Lucovsky of Google who raised a really interesting point that he gets annoyed working with companies that take months or years to iterate and add new features, when he can do multiple releases a day to the Google search API. This is really amazing considering the size of Google and demonstrates how much the small groups within Google act as individual startups.
Ryan Carson also recently wrote a post about planning your software and deployment process at the start of projects so that you can quickly and effortlessly launch changes without all the messing about normally involved in launching or updating a web site or application. I follow the majority of the points that Ryan lists, but could really do with adding the final touched so that any deployments can be done with relativity minimum effort.
I’m already finding it a chore to find and upload changed files, and remember to change any config files, so it would be of real benefit for me to take the time out now to set things up so everything can be updated at the click of a button. I assume that it wont be too difficult for the moment as I only have one file server to update and a single database - so i should be able to archive the goal with a few hacked together scripts.
Not too sure where this post is heading now and seems to be off topic, but ill be sure to post details of how I achieve this process when I have things up and running.
