Internet Down

POSTED AT 10:12 on 4th January 2007

Argghhh my internet connection was down for around 4 hours and I was completly lost without it. Has really made me think of how much we have all come to rely on it for work, communication, fun and relaxation. It’s finally back up and im swarmed with unread emails and tasks waiting to be complete. When you run your entire life and business on the internet as soon as your local connection goes down you run into trouble.

During the downtime I spent some time planning out my new web based app and have now started to re-engineer it so that it will still function fully when no route to the internet is present. I think this is going to become more and more important with business and productivity apps over the next year and I can hopefully be ahead of the crowd. I will post more about my app in the next few weeks once i’ve got more of the details set in concrete.

I know how that feels. When you intertwingle everything with the tentacles of the interweb, you feel awful naked without.

I’ve moved house twice in the last 3 months and to stave off the pangs of disconnect, arranged a separate broadband account via my mobile phone.

Here in Sydney, you can get a slow broadband connection through bluetooth and your phone. I wrote the expense off as a backup for business and personal connectivity, and the surplus gets used for me to use bandwidth heavy mobile sites like gMaps. Digital insurance, if you will.
