iTunes annoys me sometimes

I generally love the user experience and feature set of iTunes, but some times it just really annoys me by blocking me from using the application while it updates the library. Since I have a library of around 10,000 songs, this update usually takes a good 5-10 minutes and stops me from playing any music in the mean time.
Update: The iTunes store is now also not letting me view my account after the recent update :(
